Dear Friends:
Appalachian Power remains committed to supporting the many worthy causes in the hundreds of communities we serve in Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Even amid a tough economic year, we realize the importance of ongoing support for the programs and people who are working hard to make a difference in the lives of so many.
In light of the economy and the increasing costs associated with producing energy, Appalachian Power directed significant support toward helping people pay their electric utility bills. We are affiliated with two assistance programs in our service territory, the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program for customers in Virginia and Tennessee, and the West Virginia Utility Assistance Program. Last year, the company and stockholders contributed $100,000 each for West Virginia and Virginia, and $10,000 in Tennessee. The distribution for the 2009-2010 heating season included $500,000 for both West Virginia and Virginia, and
$25,000 for Tennessee.
Another contribution that received enthusiastic support from our employees, is the $100,000 four-year grant awarded to Trout
Unlimited (TU) by the AEP Foundation. The grant was provided to support coldwater conservation in our service area and opens up exciting opportunities not only for our employee volunteers to partner with TU chapters to clean and restore streams over the next four years, but also to enhance science education through Trout In the Classroom projects in our service area.
There are so many organizations actively bringing about positive change in the lives of so many, and Appalachian Power is happy to play at least a small role in providing financial and volunteer resources to the causes. The links below provide a complete list of the organizations we were able to support in the past year.
Sincerely,

Dana Waldo
